This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

Successful completion of this qualification and suitable experience provides you with the opportunity to become a professional wool classer.

You will have the skills and knowledge to sort, classify and grade wool into various types for sale in the market.  You will learn skills in supervising work routines, staff performance, training, determining wool classing strategies, managing shearing and crutching operations, classing wool for special markets, providing information and advice on wool preparation, and implementing and monitoring quality assurance procedures.

  • You love the outdoors and want a practical hands-on career in the Agriculture Industry.
  • You want to learn how to handle wool and assist undertake leadership duties in a shearing shed.
  • You want to become a Wool Classer.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Enjoy practical / manual work.

  • Be able to follow Work Health and Safety procedures and respond to immediate safety risks. 

This course provides the skills and knowledge to sort, classify and grade wool into various types for sale in the market.  You will learn skills in supervising work routines, staff performance, training, determining wool classing strategies, managing shearing and crutching operations, classing wool for special markets, providing information and advice on wool preparation, and implementing and monitoring quality assurance procedures. When you successfully complete this course and have suitable experience you can become a Professional Wool Classer.

Time Commitment  You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
