Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

What is Recognition of Prior Learning?

You have experience and know-how – get your skills recognised!

You're good at what you do and you've been doing it for years. Whether your experience has been through paid employment or as a volunteer, it’s possible for you to gain a qualification through a process known as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Boost your career prospects and earning potential with nationally recognised certification through South Regional TAFE.

You can get recognised via two options:

  • If you’ve previously completed relevant qualifications, you may be able to gain credits towards your chosen course. This means you could skip re-doing some units, or even get into a different course entirely.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will look at learning you’ve done in the past. This could be from both work and life experiences, certificates and references (both professional and personal).

There are many forms of assessment and you can discuss the options available to you with one of our lecturers.

The assessment process determines if the outcomes have been achieved to the standard stated in the unit of competency or module.

The outcome for successful RPL is the same as that given to an enrolled student and does not discriminate in a competent outcome for a unit within a course.  It is based on evidence provided by the applicant.

RPL requires enrolment into the process and RPL fees (non-refundable) are required at the time of enrolment.  If you enrol for RPL which carries a government subsidy, you will pay fees for each unit of competency in which you enrol.

Per Unit and Full Course: Fees per unit are $2.44 per nominal hour. (No resource fees charged)

If you are a State Government employee, RPL rates are fee-for-service and will be calculated for you when you discuss what qualification or units you will be applying for.

This does not apply to Class A and Class B restricted Qualifications (Trades), RPLs for these qualifications will be quoted on application.

Please note, RPL Fees are deregulated and as such no concessional rates apply to this service.

South Regional TAFE will recognise all qualifications issued under the Australian Qualification Framework. Your South Regional TAFE qualification will be recognised across Australia.

Talk to the staff at your local campus or submit an RPL enquiry below and a TAFE staff member will be in contact with you to discuss the next step in the process.
