120 hours of work placement is mandatory for completion of this course and will be arranged by South Regional TAFE. Your work placement requires you to be available to attend during weekdays and you may need to rearrange personal or work commitments to be able to attend.

Please be aware vaccinations may be an employment requirement for many healthcare providers. SRTAFE students undertaking work placements or who are required to attend a healthcare or community setting as part of their studies are advised to check directly with the healthcare provider regarding their policy settings around vaccination and proof of vaccination requirements.

Additional Requirements for Work Placement

Prior to students attending industry placement, South Regional TAFE lecturers will be required to sight proof of documents required by industry:

• Influenza immunisation evidence (if required)
• COVID-19 Vaccination requirements proof (if required)
• National Police Clearance from WA Police. Forms are available at Australia Post (if required)
• NDIS clearance/worker-check. Forms available online and completed on the Department of Transport (DOT) website (if required)
• Working with Children’s Check (if required)
• For students who are under 18 years of age, work placements, as organised by course coordinator, may need to be negotiated with the industry.

Furthermore, for disability-specific work placements, students are required to have a driver’s license and/or reliable transport. This is because most disability service providers will not accept students unless they possess a license and vehicle, given that the majority of the work is conducted in the community across multiple locations.

Note: Fitness for work is addressed as the course contains direct care work and associated manual handling tasks.

An additional cost of $17.33 per unit for all students will apply at enrolment for AMC, an online learning resource.
