This qualification gives you the opportunity to work in tourism industry for diverse employers including tour operators, inbound tour operators, visitor information centres, at attractions and cultural and heritage sites.

This course remains FEE FREE in 2025! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

This qualification will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be competent in a range of tourism sales, operational and tour delivery rolls.
Work would be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of tourism products and services takes place, in the field where tourism products are delivered or a combination of both.
- You are passionate about tourism.
- You are a small tourism business owner.
- You are working in the Tourism Industry and wish to elevate your skills and knowledge.
- You are a Tour Operator, work in a Visitor Information Centre or on cultural and heritage sites.
- You wish to become a Travel Advisor, Tour Guide, Visitor Information Services Officer or similar position.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must:
- Have a desire to help people by providing information about your local area and other cultures.
- Keen to build skills in the tourism industry that may lead to exciting world-wide career opportunities.
- Enjoy sharing stories about local areas, history, heritage and other cultures.
- Have good time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Demonstrate well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to immediate safety risks.
- Show well-developed communication and listening skills to liaise and work with a range of people.
Through a combination of practical training and industry-relevant learning, this course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to be competent in a range of tourism sales, operational and delivery roles. You will be taught about using discretion, judgement and having a sound knowledge of industry operations. You are encouraged to join in on flied trips to a range of tourism sites and listen to guest speakers. On completion you will be able to work under limited supervision and may provide operational advice and support to team members.
Time Commitment
You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and work experience to successfully complete this course; and complete the work experience as arranged.
This course is delivered by online learning tools, with additional on-site workplace assessments and training. South Regional TAFE will arrange this suitable work placement within the industry with you.

Create informative tourist information and scripted commentary. Advise on tourism products and services. Interpret aspects of Australian indigenous culture. Lead tour groups. Bushwalk in tracked environments and minimise environmental impact.
