When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. You will have the skills and knowledge for work or further learning in the conservation and ecosystem management industry. The qualification provides for work roles encompassing a broad range of skills, or can be focused on one or more specialisations such as Indigenous land management, ecological restoration, land, parks and wildlife management and pest control.

Individuals with this qualification perform a range of conservation and ecosystem management activities including site restoration, rehabilitation and renewal and management of the rural and natural landscapes, degraded sites and marine environments. They contribute to the preservation and maintenance of wildlife and their habitat in the natural ecosystem, parks and reserves. Activities frequently involve working with and preservation of indigenous culture and heritage resources.

  • Have an interest in conservation, ecosystems and the environment.
  • Enjoy practical / manual work.
  • Enjoy nature and outdoors.
  • Show the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Be able to cope with varied outdoor weather conditions (e.g., heat, rain, cold, wind).
  • Demonstrate the ability to cope with nature (e.g., flies, insects, spiders).
  • Have high stamina and fitness levels.
  • Demonstrate your problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately follow plans and instructions and work to deadlines.
  • Able to follow Work Health and Safety procedures and respond to immediate safety risks.
  • Show tolerance, patience and the willingness to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

This course provides a broad range of skills for work roles within conservation, ecosystems and the environment. You will learn to undertake site restoration, rehabilitation, renewal and management of rural and natural landscapes, degraded sites and marine environments. You will contribute to the preservation and maintenance of wildlife and their habitat in the natural ecosystem, parks and reserves. Activities frequently involve working with and preservation of indigenous culture and heritage resources.

Time Commitment  You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
