This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge in conservation and ecosystem management and the restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems.

This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

Get started on your career in conservation and ecosystem management. This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge in conservation and ecosystem management for Indigenous land management, lands, parks and wildlife services and the restoration and rehabilitation of ecosystems.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must:
- Have an interest in conservation, ecosystems and the environment.
- Enjoy practical / manual work.
- Get enjoyment of nature and outdoors.
- Able to work independently as well as within a team.
- Have ability to cope with varied outdoor weather conditions (e.g., heat, rain, cold, wind).
- Be able to cope with nature (e.g., flies, insects, spiders).
- Have high stamina and fitness levels.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Show ability to accurately follow plans and instructions and work to deadlines.
- Display ability to follow work health and safety procedures and respond to immediate safety risks.
- Show tolerance, patience and the willingness to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
This course is general introduction to conservation, ecosystems and environmental skills. You will learn how to recognise flora and fauna, operate basic machinery and equipment and depending on which Campus you enrol treat weeds, maintain wildlife habitat refuges, perform basic ecological restoration work or learn how to operate a handheld GPS device.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
