• Have an interest in construction and mobile plant equipment.
• Enjoy working outdoors.
• Enjoy manual work and have a good level of physical fitness to manage physical demands in the workplace such as safely climbing ladders, handle tools, perform manual handling and move within confined, elevated or awkward spaces.
• Have good hand-eye coordination.
• Show ability to communicate with others.
• Be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Demonstrate ability to follow instructions, Work Health and Safety procedures and work to deadlines.
• Have sound reading, writing and math skills.

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work safely within the Civil Construction Industry. You will perform routine tasks including manual excavation, and use of hand power tools as well as learning to safely operate a multitude of mobile plant such as skid steer, front end loader, water truck, haul truck, roller and excavator. You will also develop a range of transferable skills including communicating in the workplace, planning and organising work, and working safely by following WHS policies and procedures.

A career in Civil Construction covers a broad range of tasks related to planning, creating and maintaining public infrastructure to help make the public’s lives easier. You can continue to progress your career with further study at a certificate IV level.

Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.

  • Conduct civil construction skid steer loader, excavator, roller, front end loader, water vehicle and haul truck operations.

  • Carry out manual excavation, basic levelling and spread and compact materials manually.
