Study Mode Traineeship

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as skilled operators with civil construction plant, who apply a broad range of skills in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. These individuals may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

  • You want to kick-start your career to become a Civil Construction Worker or Labourer.

Then this is the course for you.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Have an interest in construction and operating equipment.
  • Enjoy manual work and have a good level of physical fitness.
  • Have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Show ability to communicate with others.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Show ability to follow instructions, Work Health and Safety procedures and work to deadlines.
  • Have basic reading, writing and math skills.

This entry level qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work safely within the civil construction industry. You will perform routine tasks including manual excavation, concreting, trench work, pipe laying, and pothole repair. You will also develop a range of transferable skills including communicating in the workplace, planning and organising work, and working safely by following Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.

A career in Civil Construction covers a broad range of tasks related to planning, creating and maintaining public infrastructure to help make the public’s lives easier. You can also continue to progress your career with further study at a certificate III and IV level.

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.
