This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to create two and three dimensional forms in a variety of visual art areas. You will learn to visualise, develop and present ideas and images, to discuss the visual arts analytically and appreciatively and to constructively evaluate your own work and that of others. You will also learn skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, textiles and design.

  • You want to learn how to see, think and communicate in creative ways.
  • You enjoy experimenting with materials to express your creativity including drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. 

Then this is the course for you. 

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Have an interest in creative expression and a future in the creative industries.
  • Have communication skills to discuss own work and artworks of others.
  • Apply hand/craft skills to create unique works in a variety of art mediums with attention to detail.
  • Develop skills in analysing images and ideas, and to applying critical thinking to evaluate artworks.
  • Have organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Understand other peoples’ perspectives and opinions and respect for their views.
  • Be tolerant and willing to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Possess the ability to follow instructions, Work Health and Safety procedures and to avoid safety risks

This course equips you with practical skills and knowledge in both 2-and 3-dimensional art forms, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, which may include ceramics, textiles or other 3D options. You’ll learn to visualise, develop and present ideas and images, to discuss the visual arts analytically and appreciatively and to constructively evaluate your own work and others. 

It also serves as a foundation for further study or careers in fields such as visual arts, ceramics, arts management, architecture, product design, industrial design, interior design, interior decoration, graphic design, fashion and textile design, jewellery and object design. 

Time Commitment: You will need to allocate sufficient time to complete the course. This includes attending classes on-campus and accessing learning materials online. You will also need to undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, practising skills, visual enquiry and completing assessment requirements.
