Study Mode Traineeship

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work in a Hospital Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) or Theatre Sterile Supply Unit (TSSU).

You will learn about infection control policies and procedures, and safe occupational health practices. You will learn skills to clean and disinfect re-usable medical devices and equipment and care for surgical instruments. 

  • You would like to become a Sterilisation Assistant or Instrument Technician.
  • You value cleanliness, attention to detail and want to work in the healthcare sector.
  • You would like to work in the Healthcare sector in an essential support role, whereby you learn advanced techniques to sterilise surgical instruments, in preparation for a Hospital Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) or Theatre Sterile Supply Unit (TSSU).

In this role you will follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for your own work under general supervision. The specialised skill set you will develop assists medical and nursing staff to help protect patients from infection. You will learn how to clean, disinfect and sterilise reusable medical devices for preparation prior to operational procedures and surgeries. 

Time Commitment

You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and your traineeship work placement.
