Study Mode Apprenticeship

This course aims to prepare learners for a career in mobile plant technology. You will gain skills and knowledge in mobile plant technologies, including steering, braking and hydraulic systems. You will learn how to carry out diagnostic procedures and undertake appropriate repairs, identifying and applying safe work practices in the heavy automotive industry.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of mobile plant machinery in the automotive retail, service and repair industry. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice before you can undertake this course.

  • You are seeking a hands-on trade career servicing and fixing all the mobile plant machinery in the Building, Earthmoving, Agriculture and Mining Industries.
  • You want a career fixing the big toys – excavators, dozers, cranes, loaders, drilling rigs, dump trucks, tractors, combine harvesters, seeders, sprayers, rock crushers and conveyor systems.

When you complete this course, you will have skills and knowledge in mobile plant technology to carry out diagnostic procedures and undertake appropriate repairs, identifying and applying safe work practices. 

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on campus as outlined in your training plan; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.

    • Test and repair basic electrical circuits
    • Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles
    • Diagnose and repair many heavy vehicle and/or machinery systems including charging, starting, ignition, braking, steering, clutches, cooling, engines, drive shafts, emission control, hydraulics, transmissions, electrics, diesel fuel injection and final drive assemblies.
    • Inspect and service engines, final drive assemblies, diesel fuel injection and hydraulic systems
    • Remove and install heavy vehicle engine assemblies
    • Carry out welding
  • Technology - Adapt to new tools, access digital resources, and integrate technology into your learning.
