This course focuses on the development of English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills directly related to immediate personal and social needs and also includes the development of relevant social, settlement and numeracy skills and knowledge. The purpose of this qualification is preparation for participation in further English language study or vocational training which may include English language support or employment.

  • You are from a non-English speaking background and would like to develop your English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills for everyday use.
  • You would like to improve your English skills for further training and/or employment.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Have a desire to learn the English language.
  • Enjoy communicating with others.
  • Show a willingness to listen to and apply learnings.

This certificate in English as Another Language (EAL) focuses on the development of English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills directly related to immediate personal and social needs. It includes the development of relevant social, settlement and numeracy skills and knowledge. This certificate provides a basis for further English language education or vocational training which may include English language support or employment.

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
