This five day WorkSafe Western Australia course for Health and Safety Representatives will provide representatives with information and skills to enable them to effectively carry out their role as "representatives" of employees, and as defined under Section 68 of the WHS Act.
The course is specifically designed to achieve the objectives of the Act offering a balanced approach with emphasis on cooperation and consultation and representatives' participation in the development and formulation of safety and health policy and procedures at the workplace.
This course covers:
- how to apply the legislative requirements to the workplace
- how to apply the principles of Risk Management by participating in and conducting a workplace inspection
- how to apply the techniques of accident investigation
- how to assist the employer in the development of accident prevention controls and systems
- how to effectively communicate with the employer and employees on safety and health matters
On completion of this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attendance from South Regional TAFE.
- You are the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or deputy HSR and have been elected under the WHS Act for your workplace.

This five-day WorkSafe Western Australia accredited course for Health and Safety Representatives is intended to assist you as the HSR understand your role and function as to how the WHS legislation will influence health and safety outcomes in your workplace. This course aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil your role as a HSR including:

an understanding of the new WHS legislation.

an understanding of how it applies to your role as an elected HSR or deputy HSR.

the knowledge and skills necessary to use your additional powers under the WHS legislation to issue Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) and direct that unsafe work cease.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on campus as outlined in the study mode. This course is delivered over five days face to face.
