This skill set provides practical skills and essential knowledge to confidently use a range of hand and power tools in compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements. The training focuses on planning, selecting, and operating tools safely, as well as maintaining a clean and hazard-free work area.

 Delivered face-to-face over 15 hours, the program combines hands-on practice with underpinning theory to ensure learners can apply techniques in real-world settings. Participants will gain the competence to meet industry standards and perform tasks efficiently while minimising risks.

In this course you will gain the knowledge and skills to:

  • Plan and prepare for using hand and power tools.
  • Select the right tools for specific tasks and operate them safely.
  • Apply hazard controls and follow workplace procedures.
  • Conduct housekeeping and maintain tools after use.
  • Understand relevant WHS legislation, codes of practice, and safety standards.

Do you want to learn how to:

  • Safely use a variety of hand tools such as cutting, tightening, impact, measuring, and clamping tools.
  • Operate portable power tools including drills, grinders, saws, and sanders.
  • Plan and prepare for tasks by identifying hazards and applying workplace safety procedures.
  • Select the right tool for the job and use it effectively to complete tasks.
  • Apply hazard controls and follow WHS procedures.
  • Perform maintenance and housekeeping after using tools.
  • Work confidently in a real or simulated workplace environment using industry-standard equipment.

  • Have English reading and writing skills to communicate and follow instructions.

  • Be able to follow instructions and follow Work Health and Safety procedures. 

Time Commitment:

You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending face-to-face classes during the scheduled 15 hours of class time. You may be required to undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
