Operate and Maintain Chainsaws Skill Set
This one-day short course provides essential skills and knowledge to operate and maintain chainsaws safely and effectively. You will learn how to prepare, operate, and maintain chainsaws for a range of tasks while following Workplace Health and Safety procedures. Ideal for those working in Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture, or Land Management.
This course is fee free* for residents of Western Australia. Some eligibility conditions apply for the fee free training and other fees may apply for some courses. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.

Study Mode On Campus
In this course you will learn the knowledge and skills to:
- Conduct pre-operational checks and maintenance on chainsaws
- Operate chainsaws safely for cutting tasks
- Apply workplace health and safety procedures including hazard and risk assessment
- Maintain and store chainsaws correctly
Do you want to learn how to:
- Operate chainsaws confidently and safely
- Understand chainsaw components and functions
- Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting
- Cut wood following compression and tension requirements
To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must:
- Value safety in the workplace for yourself and others
- Be willing to assist in planning for emergency and take action in an emergency
- Have well-developed communication, intermediate English reading and writing skills.
- Show sound level of fitness to perform emergency operations such as evacuation.
- Have problem-solving ability.
- Show good attention to detail.
- Show ability to work as part of a team.
- Be able to follow instructions and follow Work Health and Safety procedures.
Time Commitment
You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending all face-to-face classes on-site
