This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in remedial massage. You will have the skills and knowledge to perform massages for relaxation and health purposes. You will learn skills to assess a client's massage needs and plan and conduct a remedial massage based on a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and using skills in a wide range of soft tissue massage techniques. You will also learn to work safely and ethically in a health care environment, to communicate effectively with clients and other health care workers and to operate your own massage practice. During this qualification you will be required to conduct and complete a large number of massages of varying types, work on a variety of community clients, and work in and with the massage industry.
Successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to become a remedial massage therapist, either as a sole practitioner or with other health professionals such as physiotherapists. Students also learn how to set up their own massage business and understand legal and ethical requirements of the health industry.

- Have well-developed personal judgement, problem-solving skills to determine treatment needs and the ability to respond to immediate safety risks.
- Make ethical decisions with the ability to comply with the legal requirements of the industry (e.g., Privacy Act 1988).
- Respect client perspectives, choices, and cultural diversity.
- Understand that this course includes considerable anatomy and physiology (e.g., learning names, locations and movements of muscles and bones).
- Show interest in the various conditions that commonly present to remedial massage therapists (i.e., human disease processes and how the body system operates).
- Be confident using technology (e.g., online booking system and Blackboard).
- Identify signs of physical discomfort when treating a client and respond accordingly.
- Have a sound level of fitness as this course requires you to be on your feet for extended periods of time and has physical demands of manual tasks.
- Be comfortable with appropriate physical contact in a professional learning environment. Some practical activities may involve discreet disrobing to only briefs, in line with industry standards. Expectations will be clearly explained, and any concerns should be raised early so reasonable adjustments can be discussed. These practical components are mandatory for course completion.
This course enables you to learn from professionals passionate about healing and the musculoskeletal system. You will be able to assess a client’s massage needs and plan and conduct a remedial massage based on knowledge and Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and using skills in a wide range of soft tissue massage techniques. You will also learn to work safely and ethically in a healthcare environment, to communicate effectively with clients and other health care workers and to operate your own massage practice.
Time Commitment
You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.

- Applying a range of massage techniques including deep pressure massage, integrative remedial massage, and lymphatic massage.
- Pain reduction, mobility improving and function restorative techniques such as myofascial release, muscle energy technique (MET), and trigger point therapy.
- Technology: Adapt to new tools, access digital resources, and integrate technology into your learning.
