When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in beauty therapy. You will have the skills and knowledge in a range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including facial massage, lash and brow treatments, nail services, make-up, waxing, body massage, aromatherapy, micro-dermabrasion and knowledge of skin care, cosmetic products and customer service. You will also learn a broad range of skilled applications, including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices, and provision of leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of skills.

  • You have completed SHB40121 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy or a similar course and want to develop your skills further. Completing earlier courses is not essential to enter this course.

  • Confident to consult with clients and listen to their needs.
  • Be well-presented with well-developed communication skills.
  • Show tolerance, patience and the willingness to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

This course includes female intimate waxing services. It will mean your client will be unclothed in these intimate areas to undertake these waxing treatments. You will need to be comfortable with and maintain professionalism and discretion throughout these intimate treatments. You must maintain a calm and confident demeanour throughout the procedure, as clients may experience discomfort and require reassurance.

In this role you will build on the skills and knowledge from earlier courses to perform a range of beauty therapy treatments and services including facial massage, lash and brow treatments, nail technology service, make-up, waxing, body massage aromatherapy and knowledge of skin care, cosmetic products and customer service. You will develop additional skills including micro-dermabrasion, spa therapies and aromatherapy and hot stone massages. You will gain hands-on experience in a simulated work environment where you will perform beauty therapy procedures on real clients.

You will also learn a broad range of skilled applications including requirements to evaluate and analyse current practices, develop new criteria and procedures for performing current practices and some provision for leadership and guidance to others in the application and planning of skills. 

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.

    • Waxing including female intimate waxing services.
    • Spray tanning.
    • Manicure and pedicure services.
    • Lash and brow treatments as well as lash extensions.
    • Facials and specialised facials.
    • Incorporate knowledge of skin and body structures and functions into beauty therapy.
    • Massages including body, aromatherapy and stone therapy.
    • Micro-dermabrasion treatments.
    • Spa therapies.
    • Provide salon services to clients including financial transactions.
    • Advise and retail skin care and cosmetic products and services.
    • Apply safe hygiene, health and work practices.
    • Maintain infection control standards.
    • Maintain ethical and professional standards when using social media and online platforms.
  • Technology - Adapt to new tools, access digital resources, and integrate technology into your learning. Some key skills for this course include ability to use email, navigate the internet using a web browser and search engines and ability to learn new programs (e.g., Blackboard).
