This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as developing and emerging leaders and managers in a range of enterprise and industry contexts.

As well as assuming responsibility for their own performance, individuals at this level are likely to provide leadership, guidance and support to others. They may also have some responsibility for organising and monitoring the output of teams.

They apply solutions to a defined range of predictable and unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources.

  • You are an aspiring leader who has the support of your organisation to complete this course.
  • You are a recently appointed leader or manager wanting to develop strong foundations in leadership and management.
  • You are an experienced leader or manager looking to consolidate and be formally recognised for your leadership and management capabilities.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Have a desire to build leadership and management skills.
  • Currently be working in a leadership or management role with supervisory responsibility for a minimum of two team members.
  • Demonstrate strong time-management and organisational skills.
  • Possess effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrate computer skills to confidently access online resources and complete workplace      documents.
  • Have a reasonable level of oral and written English to complete written assessments, workplace documents, workplace meetings and role-plays.

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to develop your leadership and management skills while providing leadership, guidance and support to others.

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements. 

Below are some of the important personal skills you will be required to develop and demonstrate during training. These skills are highly valued by industry:

  • Respectful Communication - Interact with people from different backgrounds, share ideas effectively and build trust. Recognise the benefits of diversity and model inclusive behaviour through seeking to establish interpersonal connections with a diverse range of people.
  • Teamwork – Collaborate with others, show them respect, and be open to feedback. Establish and build relationships to foster a positive team environment.
  • Problem Solving - There is always a solution. How do you respond to a challenge? If you spot a problem, we encourage you to ask questions, clarify as needed, and respond appropriately within your training. Use your critical thinking skills to challenge ideas evaluate solutions and move towards resolution.
  • Initiative - Stay motivated, take proactive steps, and seek help when necessary. Recognise what needs to get done, plan and manage time effectively, and find your motivation to stay on track.
  • Planning - Manage time well. Knowing how to prioritise and completing your tasks efficiently are crucial for your success. Plan, organise, and implement work activities for self and teams to get the tasks completed efficiently.
  • Self-Management - Reflect on your performance. Reflection is a powerful tool for growth and success as a student at South Regional TAFE. Being a professional in the workplace can mean learning when to accept responsibility for your failures as often as your successes. This is how we learn! Reflect on strengths and areas for improvement, set future-focused goals, develop a personalised plan, and actively monitor progress toward achieving those goals.
