This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

Study Mode Apprenticeship

When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in the heavy automotive sector. You will have the skills and knowledge to carry out diagnostic procedures and undertake appropriate repairs, identifying and applying safe work practices in the heavy automotive industry. This course will expand your knowledge and practical skills specific to heavy commercial vehicles, including steering, braking and hydraulic systems.  (NB. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice/trainee before you can undertake this course). 

  • You are seeking a hands-on trade career servicing and fixing all things in the heavy automotive and plant machinery industries - trucks, dozers, excavators, cranes, loaders, drilling rigs.
  • You want to gain qualifications as a Heavy Diesel Motor Mechanic.

Then this is the course for you.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must:

When you complete this course, you will have skills and knowledge in heavy automotive diagnostic procedures and undertake appropriate repairs, identifying and applying safe work practices. You will ensure that all parts are fully functional, from the mechanical equipment, engine, cooling systems, steering and suspension systems, and even electrical circuits.

Time Commitment  You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on campus as outlined in your training plan; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.

    • Carry out welding
