This course develops skills in fashion design concepts, pattern making, industry sewing techniques for stretch and woven garments as well gaining an understanding of fabrics and sustainability. Planning your designs, costing and marketing are also covered, assisting you to start your own business or employment in the fashion industry.

This course develops skills in fashion design concepts, pattern making, industry sewing techniques for stretch and woven garments as well as gaining an understanding of fabrics and sustainability. Planning your designs as well as creating individual patterns and garment prototypes, mending and altering garments are also covered, assisting you to start your own business or employment in the fashion industry.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.

- Correctly identify a fabric or textile from its visual and physical properties.
- Develop patterns using basic patternmaking principles.
- Create computer assisted design mood boards to visually present design, colour and textile ideas
- Use a range of sewing machines to align and sew pattern pieces according to the fabric and product type.
- Troubleshoot common problems to use machines confidently including how to control sewing machines’ speed and tension.
- Apply principles and elements of fashion design to create and embellish your own designer garments.
- Engage in sustainable practices when producing textiles and clothing.
- Contribute to health and safety of self and others.
- Technology: Adapt to new tools, access digital resources, and integrate technology into your learning including creating digital pattern blocks and fashion trade sketches.
