When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in Allied Health Assistance. You will have the skills and knowledge to assist allied health staff (i.e., physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists) in a variety of settings (hospital, aged care, private practice) working with a range of clients.

This course remains FEE FREE in 2025! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in Allied Health Assistance. You will have the skills and knowledge to assist allied health staff (physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists) by helping implement the patients rehabilitation or maintenance therapy programmes, and in preparing written and verbal reports on their progress.

- Have a sound level of physical fitness as this course involves hands-on tasks such as assisting with client mobility, massage, exercise support and handling equipment. These activities may require light to strenuous physical effort including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving between floor and standing positions.
- Be comfortable with appropriate physical contact. Learning will involve physical contact between students of different genders and ages. However, this will never require dis-robing. The lecturers will ensure that industry standards for appropriate touching and clothing are clearly explained and always met. If you have any concerns, it’s your responsibility to speak with lecturers so reasonable adjustments can be discussed and implemented.
In this role you will gain the skills and knowledge to aid Allied Health professionals. You will help implement client rehabilitation or maintenance therapy programs, and aid in the preparation of written and verbal reports on their progress.
This course contains material of a sensitive nature, including human injury, and exposure to challenging behaviours, which may be upsetting or triggering for some individuals. Please ensure you have sufficient support networks for the duration of your study. Support is also available through South Regional TAFE Student Services, who can direct you to our student support services, including Counsellors, Aboriginal Services, and Disability Services.
Time Commitment
You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and work placement
You will need to complete:
- 120 hours in a suitable environment, which provides the services in this selected area of study. South Regional TAFE will arrange the work placement within the industry for you.
- Work Placement hours will be in keeping with Allied Health Industry requirements. This may be outside of your class hours.
- Working With Children Check (WCC): this may be requested by the workplace prior to placement for the Disability stream. This will incur an additional cost. To find out more click here.

- National Police Clearance: prior to placement, if requested by the workplace. This clearance will incur an additional cost. To find out more about this clearance click here.
