With a growing number of women stepping into non-traditional trades, South Regional TAFE is committed to providing short course skill sets for women only; giving them greater support and encouragement needed to succeed.
Short courses are opening doors for women across regional Western Australia. These practical, hands-on programs allow female students the skills and confidence to work safely and effectively in industries like farming, forestry, and logistics; all sectors that are vital to the local economy.
Some of the short courses on offer at South Regional TAFE are FEE-FREE, meaning the course fees are 100% subsidised by the WA state government for WA residents (resources fees may apply); this has further removed barriers to entry for people to learn new skills.
Many women who begin with skill set short courses go on to pursue apprenticeships or full qualifications, building long-term careers in trades they may never have considered before.
Short courses that have included women-only sessions are:

Being able to excel in a non-traditional trade has proven life-changing for Albany Agriculture and Conservation Land Management Lecturer Suzanne Hill.
“Leasing farms with my two young daughters was a highlight - proving that women can lead in agriculture while raising a family and chasing their dreams,” she said.
“Thankfully, I’ve been able to continue working in agriculture while living in ‘the smoke’, helping others realise their potential and dreams in this industry I love.”
South Regional TAFE encourages women of all ages to explore the possibilities of a trade career. These skill sets are ideal for those looking to upskill, change careers, or gain practical experience in a supportive environment. With industry demand growing and barriers being broken, now is the perfect time to take the first step.
