WA’s next generation of nurses honoured

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

South Regional TAFE has celebrated students completing their studies in Diploma of Nursing at ceremonies held at the Albany and Bunbury campuses.

Students were recognised for their hard-work and dedication as they completed their course in Semester One and prepare to transition into the workforce.

South Regional TAFE Managing Director Blair Marsh acknowledged the personal achievements of the graduates and the enormous contribution they will make to the lives of people in regional communities.

“The 18-month Diploma of Nursing is one of our most intensive courses with a full-time workload, several work placements and extensive external study, however, these are all essential building blocks to prepare students for such important work, he said.

“The course prepares our students to provide care for our communities’ most vulnerable people in a career that is often considered the backbone of the healthcare industry.

“Events like these, provide an important opportunity to pause, gather together and recognise the student’s hard work as we celebrate this important milestone.”

Student Jane Nhete spoke on behalf of her graduating class at the Bunbury campus ceremony.

“It is an honour to celebrate the completion of this stage of our nursing journey that reflects the power of positivity, resilience and determination, she said.

“Every challenge taught us valuable lessons and strengthened our determination to succeed.

“The clinical placements taught us lessons beyond the classroom, we cared for people during their most vulnerable moments and learned the true meaning of compassion, empathy and patient centred care.

“Graduation is not the end of our journey, it is the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities to learn and grow.”

The students now enter the workforce as Enrolled Nurses commencing Graduate positions in metropolitan and regional hospitals including Albany, Bunbury, Collie, Harvey, Margaret River and Perth as well as within GP surgeries and community health care services. Some students also plan to continue their nursing studies at university to commence the Registered Nurse pathway.

South Regional TAFE operates 12 campuses across the southern region of Western Australia, three of these campuses deliver the Diploma of Nursing in regional centres located in Narrogin, Bunbury and Albany.
