South Regional TAFE student, Seanadh McEleney, is a national boxing champion with Olympic aspirations and a commitment to helping others.
While training for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Seanadh is also pursuing qualification as an Allied Health Assistant at our Bunbury Campus. Her motivation comes from close to home.
“Growing up with my disabled little brother inspired me to help others. I’ve coached inclusive NDIS boxing classes and junior sessions, and I’ve always loved connecting with people. Studying Allied Health Assistance felt like the right path to continue making a difference, now and in the long run,” Seanadh said.
Her journey with South Regional TAFE began with a Certificate III in Fitness, where she wanted to better understand the science behind her training.
"I started a Certificate III in Fitness to better understand the exercises I was doing in training. Learning about plyometrics and the science behind movement helped me build strength, power, and speed. I took that knowledge and applied it directly to my boxing," she said.
“It gave me ideas on things that I could eat and incorporate in my sessions to make me a better fighter overall,” she concluded.
When asked whether she expects to complete her studies before the Olympics, Seanadh shared
“Yes, so this course that I'm doing now is a six-month course, so by the end of the year, I'll be a qualified Allied Health Assistant, which will be good for me. I'll have my license and be able to get a job. But with the LA Olympics after that, I'm thinking of going straight into the support work side of things, maybe come back to South Regional TAFE to do some kind of exclusive support, like the one-on-one side of things instead of just an overall allied health system.
Today, at 16 years of age she holds titles as the 57kg Australian Champion and 60kg WA State Champion, with 2 fights under her belt and international experience in Germany. She has signed with the Institute of Sport and has attended three Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) training camps this year, working alongside the nation’s top youth boxers and coaches.
We’re proud to support Seanadh as she chases her Olympic dream while using her skills and experience learnt at South Regional TAFE to make a real difference in the lives of others.
