A Tattoo artist, a commissioned artist, a project coordinator in indigenous arts, an exhibiting artist and further studies at university are just some of the paths that our students have taken after studying visual arts at South Regional TAFE.
Meet five visual arts students who choose to pursue and succeed in different career paths.
Holly Brittain - Exhibiting Artist
In the two years since she completed her Certificate III and IV in Visual Arts, Holly has continued to develop her unique art style while exhibiting at local exhibitions and working in an art supply store. The realisation that she could achieve her dream career in the arts came about during her time at South Regional TAFE where support from lecturers gave her the confidence and knowledge to pursue her goals.
Gray Norton– Tattoo Artist
Gray credits her business acumen, brand development and career as a tattoo artist to the foundational building blocks she developed during her time studying a Certificate IV in Visual Arts. Learning how to apply her creative knowledge, with support from mentors that she made during her studies, have been essential as she established her place in this growing art form.
Autumn Attard – Portrait Commissions/Interior Design
A Diploma in Visual Arts was the catalyst for a life-long love of oil painting and the advantageous position of being able to select commissioned portrait work that align with her personal practice. Autumn also uses the skills she learnt at South Regional TAFE in the day-to-day running of her family building company where her unique interior design perspective creates beautiful living spaces for her lucky clients.
Katelyn Whitehurst – Project Coordinator, Indigenous Arts
A passion for indigenous art led Katelyn to a career in the not-for profit sector where she now coordinates artistic development with the Aboriginal Art Centre Hub of WA. The knowledge learnt during her Certificate III and IV in Visual Arts now sees her work across Western Australia to support artists, enhance skills and develop employment opportunities for others. Before this she spent three years curating the annual Noongar Country Exhibition at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.
Josef Quinn – University Studies
A Certificate IV in Visual Arts was just the beginning for Josef who has gone on to study a Bachelor of Creative Arts with a major in Fine Arts. Josef credits the techniques, skills, knowledge and confidence he found at South Regional TAFE that set him up to succeed at a tertiary level. The support from lecturers, mentors and peers at TAFE provided the ultimate inspiration to pursue a career in the arts.
