This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to enter and work in confined spaces in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.
In this course you will learn the requirements for working in confined spaces including:
- timely completion of entering and working in confined spaces safely;
- work within a confined space and compliance with the permit conditions;
- procedures, records and techniques;
- knowledge of the legislation and relevant standards;
- site/organisation risk assessment guidelines; and
- use and maintenance of appropriate PPE and more.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited unit RIIWHS202E Enter and Work in Confined Spaces.

Confined spaces training is essential across multiple industries - Construction, Mining, Manufacturing and Industrial Processing - where you may encounter tight, enclosed environments with potential hazards. This course provides the skills and knowledge to enter and work in confined spaces primarily in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries but is relevant for other sectors. There is a mixture of practical and theoretical activities using industry standard equipment.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.

- Comply with site and equipment safety requirements.
- Comply with the entry and exit procedures, risks, regulations and standards.
- Types of air contaminants and toxic gases.
- Carry out hazard identification, assessment and control.
- Identify equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations.
- Comply with site isolation and site control responsibilities and authorities.
- Locate and understand safety data sheets (SDS) information and application.
- Understand and apply atmospheric management and monitoring.
- Follow rescue procedures.
- Use and maintenance of appropriate PPE.
- Use confined space and industry terminology.
- Technology - Adapt to new tools, access digital resources, and integrate technology into your learning.
