This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to follow instructions and direction for safe handling, storage and use of chemicals.
The unit applies to individuals who undertake a range of defined routine activities alongside a supervisor in most situations. They exercise limited autonomy within established and well-known parameters and identify and seek help for simple problems.
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited unit AHCCHM101 Follow basic chemical safety rules.
- You want to be safe, secure and skilled when working with chemicals in Agriculture, Horticulture and Natural Resource Management related industries, under supervision.

- Enjoy practical / manual work and outdoors.
- Have good stamina and fitness levels.
- Demonstrate your good attention to detail.
- Have basic reading, writing and maths skills.
- Show your ability to work under supervision.
- Be able to follow Work Health and Safety procedures and respond to immediate safety risks.
Chemicals are one of the most used tools in agriculture. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to follow instructions and direction for safe handling, transport, storage and use of chemicals.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
