This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work in the Cabinet and Furniture Making Industry. You will learn how to perform a range of skills to manufacture and install furniture in a kitchen, bathroom or related environment. Installation skills may be applied to new or renovation work. 

Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on campus as outlined in your training plan; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research, and complete assessment requirements.

  • Interpret plans and create technical drawings.
  • Make accurate measurements for cabinets and other furniture.
  • Prepare cutting lists from design and production documentation.
  • Prepare surfaces.
  • Select timber.
  • Apply laminate sheet and decorative finishes.
  • Produce angled and curved furniture.
  • Fabricate and install cabinets.
  • Handmake timber joints and join solid timber.
  • Operate basic static machines and industrial machinery - automated edge banding and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machining and processing centres.
  • Calculate and cost the right materials for the job.
  • Apply workplace health and safety practices.
