This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

Study Mode Traineeship

If you are interested in gaining hands-on agricultural training, this program is designed for you. Our Certificate II in Agriculture provides a general introduction to agriculture skills and techniques. This qualification enables individuals to select a livestock production, cropping or livestock context as a job focus or, in the case of mixed farming enterprises, both cropping and livestock.

South Regional TAFE is transitioning this qualification to the new training package in 2025. If your preferred campus is not list, check the previous course page Certificate II in Agriculture | South Regional TAFE. Students will be enrolled into the new units developed to meet current and future industry needs. Fees may vary for courses transitioning to the new training package.

Then this is the course for you.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must: 

  • Have an interest in the agriculture industry
  • Enjoy practical / manual work
  • Enjoy nature and outdoors
  • Be able to work independently as well as within a team
  • Be able to cope with varied weather conditions outdoor (e.g., heat, rain, cold, wind)
  • Demonstrate your ability to cope with nature (e.g., flies, pungent odours, injury / death of livestock)
  • Show you have good attention to detail and good hand-eye coordination
  • Possess high stamina and fitness levels
  • Show your ability to accurately follow plans and instructions, and work to deadlines
  • Demonstrate your ability to follow Work Health and Safety procedures and respond to immediate safety risks
  • Show tolerance, patience and willingness to work with people from different backgrounds and cultures

This course is general introduction to agriculture skills and techniques. It will set you up with a wide range of career and study paths across agriculture, agribusiness and rural operations.

Time Commitment â€“ You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.

  • Respectful Communication - Interact with people from different backgrounds, share ideas effectively and build trust.
  • Teamwork – Collaborate with others, show them respect, and be open to feedback.
  • Problem Solving - There is always a solution. How do you respond to a challenge? If you spot a problem, we encourage you to ask questions, clarify as needed, and respond appropriately within your training.
  • Initiative - Stay motivated, take proactive steps, and seek help when necessary.
  • Planning - Manage time well. Knowing how to prioritise and completing your tasks efficiently are crucial for your success.
  • Self-Management - Reflect on your performance. Reflection is a powerful tool for growth and success as a student at South Regional TAFE. Being a professional in the workplace can mean learning when to accept responsibility for your failures as often as your successes. This is how we learn!
