Part-time study

Megan Pettersen is studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care at the Katanning campus part time. The course gave Megan the flexibility she needed with her lecturer adapting the delivery of units, either online or in class, to fit around her commitments so she could continue studying while raising her children.

“I decided to study part-time because I work part-time as well as raising two young children. Studying full-time would be difficult to manage alongside my work and family responsibilities. Part-time study gives me the opportunity to work towards my qualification while still being there for my family”.

Full-time, flexible learning

For students seeking flexibility, a combination of recorded lectures and face-to-face learning can provide the best of both worlds. 

Angus Blake, a graduate of the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming specialisation) at the Albany campus is now continuing his studies in Information Technology at university.

"I chose to study full-time. There was a moderate level of flexibility in my course, with many of the lectures being recorded and some delivered in-person only. The Information Technology lecturers at South Regional TAFE are awesome and were always willing to be flexible if ever I couldn't make it to class. One of my favourite things about TAFE is the practical, forgiving learning environment - there was always an abundance of in-class time with lecturers. It's easy to get help if you don't get something, all you need to do is ask". 

Angus’s dedication and achievements were recognised with a Certificate of Excellence in Information Technology at the 2025 South Regional TAFE Student Awards.

Online learning

Certificate IV Work Health and Safety student Kahli Westlund, online learning was the perfect fit "I studied online, it was quite easy to juggle with the rest of life’s responsibilities, and was an enjoyable course, easy to manage the content and you learn something new every day." 

Earlier this year, Kahli was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Work, Health and Safety at the 2025 South Regional TAFE Student awards.

Lecturer, online

A growing cohort of courses at South Regional TAFE have moved online to deliver curriculums, giving students the opportunity to follow their interests without geographical restrictions. 

Margaret River Campus Lecturer Caroline Abbey said that it made sense to deliver the Diploma of Graphic Design (opens in a new tab) and the Preparatory Skill Set for Professional Graphic Design Practice (opens in a new tab) courses online as the student’s eventual career would use the medium to research, present briefs, collaborate and deliver concepts.

“The courses are incredibly flexible with opportunities for one-on-one classes, online progress reports, feedback between students, live classes, interactive discussions and problem solving.”
