This short course is designed to give students an understanding of workplace health and safety (WHS) law to assist in implementing and monitoring WHS policies, procedures, and programs. Participants will learn how to influence safety in the workplace through consultation, hazard identification, risk assessment and control, and the incorporation of policy and procedure into work teams.

In this course you will learn the knowledge and skills to:

  • Effectively communicate within teams to ensure consultation on WHS occurs appropriately.
  • Interpret and apply WHS legislation to workplace policies and procedures.
  • Keep up to date with WHS laws.
  • Identify WHS training needs and provide support to the team to effectively develop their WHS competence.
  • Identify WHS hazards, assess risk, and implement controls to mitigate harm.
  • Complete and maintain WHS records.

  • Be able to manage your time and commitments to attend scheduled workshops.
  • Have a positive attitude toward problem-solving and learning new skills.

Time Commitment - You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
