Gas Testing and Confined Spaces Skill Set
Gain the essential skills to work safely in confined spaces.
This course provides practical and theory-based training to meet WA Work Health and Safety requirements for confined space entry. You’ll learn how to plan and prepare for confined space work, comply with permits, and test atmospheric conditions to ensure a safe environment. Training is delivered face-to-face at South Regional TAFE campuses or approved worksites. Designed for workers in mining, construction, and related industries, the course is also suitable for those seeking employment or needing refresher training.
This course remains FEE FREE in 2025! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

In this course you will learn the knowledge and skills to:
- Plan and prepare for confined space work in compliance with WA WHS regulations.
- Work in accordance with confined space requirements.
- Test and interpret atmospheric conditions using gas detection equipment.
- Safely enter, work in, and exit confined spaces, applying hazard controls and emergency procedures.
- Close-down confined spaces and restore the work area safely.

- Prepare and plan for confined space tasks in accordance with safety regulations.
- Follow and manage permit requirements for confined space entry.
- Check and interpret atmospheric conditions using gas testing equipment.
- Implement hazard controls and emergency responses to reduce risks.
- Enter, work in, and exit confined spaces safely using correct procedures.
- Shut-down and secure confined spaces after work is complete.

Time Commitment:
The course runs for 1 day. You may be required to undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
