This course trains novice operators in the skills required to enter the industry as a certified excavator operator.
The course covers:

•    Plan and prepare for hydraulic excavator operations;
•    Operate hydraulic excavator;
•    Carry out operator maintenance; and
•    Carry out housekeeping activities.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited unit RIIMPO301E Conduct hydraulic excavator operations.

Successful students will also receive a Heavy Equipment Accreditation wallet card.

To make an informed choice about the suitability of this course, please consider the essential skills and knowledge below. You must:

  • Have an interest in operating machinery and basic mechanical understanding.
  • Possess sound English reading and writing skills.
  • Display well-developed communication.
  • Have good hand-eye coordination for precise control of the machine’s movements.
  • Display sound level of fitness to perform practical assessments.
  • Show problem-solving ability.
  • Have good attention to detail.
  • Display spatial awareness to understand surroundings to manoeuvre the excavator safely.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Be able to follow instructions and follow Work Health and Safety procedures.

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to safely operate an excavator.

Time Commitment  You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; and undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
